Fossil fuels are energy resources formed from the buried remains of plants and animals that lived millions of years ago. During this time, they were exposed to large amounts of pressure and temperature. Since it takes a very long time to create these materials, they are non-renewable. There are three basic forms of fossil fuels: petroleum (crude oil), natural gas, and coal.
