Environmental Initiative Participates in City of Bethlehem Earth Day Activities in Illicks Mill

Over 3000 students from the Bethlehem Area participated in various Earth day activities this April 2008.  Environmentaly conscious businesses, municipalities, and organizations participated to increase awareness and understanding.  Lehigh University ES Gradute Student Lauren Brinker and Ei Coordinator Jessica Mauro led students in a educational sorting game called "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Relay Race".  The game was adjusted for children ranging in ages 5 - 14.  The goals varied from basic sorting and understading the differences between paper, plastic and aluminum to sorting the concepts or items that were reusable, recyclabled or the suggestions for reducing energy/resource consumption.  All studnets were also given a recycled denim pencil, reminding them of the importance of the ideas and concepts discussed at the days events.
